There are a few parts of the Cotswolds where you can feel yourself truly step back in time, where steep-sided hills hide wooded valleys which only old Roman footpaths can reach, and where cosy thick-walled cottages have sheltered their inhabitants for hundreds of years. Slad is one of these, and thanks to Laurie Lee’s paean to the valley and its village, “Cider With Rosie”, we know this is true:
“Most of the cottages were built of Cotswold stone and were roofed by split-stone tiles. The tiles grew a kind of golden moss which sparkled like crystallised honey.”
1 Woodbine Cottage has been lovingly restored to give you the perfect experience of time travel, without any of the discomfort. With three double bedrooms, one en suite, plus a family bathroom, twin beds in the loft, a really comfortable living room and ideal country kitchen, the house perfectly suits 8 people on a Cotswold holiday who want to experience a countryside where…
“Bees blew like cake-crumbs through the golden air, white butterflies like sugared wafers.”
